At the onset I want to be explicit that it is difficult to test everything or absence of everything in ingredients or products. To give an example, if we do not know that sugar has some salt, we will not test for absence of salt and we may not easily find that residue as both are water soluble. There ware ways to detect it but this testing is dependent on risk and vendors. To ensure a better experience, we do select reliable vendors or manufacturers carrying appropriate certification. 

It is no different for most of manufacturers and vendors. They can test for known risks and depend on the supply chain. Similarly, our vendors have to depend on their vendors and it is a complex supply chain.

So how do we manage it? By minimizing vendors in supply chain and not using complex processed ingredients or packaging material and so on. More ingredients and packaging material we add, more we have to test.

Let me share simple example of plastic container, plastic scoop vs, no scoop and use a aluminum lined bag. We do not know what will be in label ink and will be transferred over two years in bottle in product. Similarly, what will happen to scoop. And how many times, clear plastic scoops have been powdered in the product?

 

As an example, we know our ingredients were claimed to be free from gluten but it is difficult to test each batch or each container for absence of gluten. It can come from manufacturing facility of one of our vendors or from our environment and so on.
